Hillman Books began in 1943 with a single published volume by John Dickson Carr. They resumed publishing in 1948 and published 48 titles through 1950. They started again in 1957 with #100 and published continuously through #205 in 1961. Their three most important books were #38, the first paperback edition of Jim Thompson's "Nothing More Than Murder," #41, "The Dying Earth" by Jack Vance, his first published novel, and #130, the first paperback ever published about Elvis Presley.
